Twelve families returned to their homes early Tuesday morning after officials got a chemical leak at a Nicholasville company cleaned up.
Officials evacuated the neighborhood along Ash Grove Lane, along with several businesses, after nitric acid leaked into the air at the Aulick Chemical Company on Eisenhower Court, an industrial area in Nicholasville. Firefighters from several departments worked into the night to clean up after the rust colored haze began filling the air at the water treatment company around 5 p.m. Monday.
Officials say a tank delivered earlier in the day developed a slow leak.
Nobody was hurt.
Officials say an equipment failure led to the leak.
Firefighters have cleared the scene, but EPA officials remained at the site early Tuesday morning.
