A Lexington family barely escaped their burning home Sunday morning and credit a neighbor with saving their lives. It happened on Tangle Hurst Lane in southern Fayette County.
Micah Plotts, his wife, and two young children were sound asleep when their home began burning. "It could have been a lot worse than it was," says Bob Plotts, the homeowner's father.
The Plotts were all sound asleep in their beds, no idea flames were beginning to shoot from their home. Caheen Murphy usually sleeps through the night, but for some reason he couldn't sleep, and soon heard strange sounds.
"I looked outside and the back of the house was just ablaze," remembers Caheen. He had his wife call 911 as he ran across the street and knocked on the Plotts family's door. Mom and dad and their 4 and 5-year-old kids were all able to get out safe.
It's a blessing," says Bob. "They all could have been gone. I've learned the Lord takes care of his own and when there is no way he will make a way."
He believes their neighbor Caheen Murphy wasn't up by chance.
"I just had to do some work this morning, to make sure those people got up. That's I guess why I was up at four o'clock," says Murphy.
The Plotts will be staying with Bob Plotts until they can find a temporary home.
While the Plotts family did have insurance, there is a fire fund set up to take donations. To help, visit the PNC Bank at the Tates Creek Center under the 'Plotts Fund.'
