A family of six was left homeless Thursday morning after firefighters say a child got hold of some matches or a lighter and set his house on fire.
The fire broke out in an upstairs part of the home on Fall Lane in the Clearfield area of Rowan County. Officials say the home, located near Morehead, was a total loss.
There were four children and two adults in the house at the time of the blaze, and one of the children was treated for burn injuries on his hands.
A firefighter also suffered heat exhaustion while putting out the flames. No other injuries were reported.
The family rented the home and did not have insurance. The Red Cross is in the process of assisting the family.
