After nine years, a family separated by violence in the Congo was reunited with their mother in Lexington.

Christine Lumumba's three sons and husband now live in Lexington. They moved to the states after Christine was taken from their home in the Congo in 2001. The family had been told she was killed, but in 2008 they got word that she was alive.

The family enjoyed a tearful reunion at the Blue Grass Airport on Tuesday night.

Mapendo International, a humanitarian organization that rescues refugees and reunites families, reunited this Congolese family. For more information on the organization, visit www.mapendo.org .

I knew Jonathan's family since they came here about 5 years ago. We leaved next door foe a while. Everyone would tell Jonathan that he should look for another woman to marry but he believed that one day he will see his wife again. And then he got a news from one of the Mapendo International that they had found his wife in on of the refugee camps. I saw how this family's straggles through these years and I am so happy that they have found each other. God bless them.
