Firefighters quickly knocked down a house fire in downtown Lexington Thursday morning.

A call reporting flames and smoke coming from a home along East Seventh Street came in just before 7 a.m. Firefighters say flames were shooting out of the house when they arrived, but crews were able to quickly get it under control. A woman inside the home made it out safely, and there were no reported injuries.

The house was split into a duplex, and officials say the back part was used for storage. The fire started in that area, and all of the items inside made it challenging to get to the flames.

Firefighters say they don't know what caused the fire. Investigators will comb through the scene later Thursday.
