A fire forced a couple from their home in Lexington late Monday night.

Firefighters say the blaze broke out in the kitchen of a unit in a duplex along Yellowstone Parkway. The couple who lives there got out safely, along with their two dogs. Fire department crews contained the fire to the kitchen area, but the unit sustained heavy smoke damage.

There were no reported injuries.

The American Red Cross is assisting the residents.
