Fire destroyed a restaurant in Rockcastle County Thursday morning.

The blaze ripped through Jean's Restaurant along Brush Creek Road in Mt. Vernon. The manager says the fire started during breakfast. A customer looked up, saw flames and warned workers and customers. Everybody got out safely and there were no reported injuries.

The restaurant roof caved in, and the building was destroyed.

The manager says the fire apparently started in the roof area, and he thinks an electrical problem might have sparked the blaze.

Located just off I-75 exit 59, Jean's opened in the 1970's.
