Bourbon County firefighters battled a house fire early Monday morning.

Firefighters say the blaze broke out around 4 a.m. inside a vacant home along Church Street in North Middletown. Heat and humidity complicated firefighting efforts. Extra crews were called in for additional manpower.

There were no reported injuries. Officials say the house was a complete loss.

The owner of the home lives nearby. He says he's been working to renovate the house for the last couple of years.

"I have no idea how it started, why it started. Just glad nobody was there. Nobody hurt," he said.

At 5 a.m. firefighters said they expect to remain on the scene for several hours.

Fire officials say they plan to call out arson investigators. This was the second fire in North Middletown in three days. There is no indication that the fires are connected, or that Monday's fire is suspicious, but officials want to thoroughly investigate to be sure.
