Fire destroyed a building at the Forest Products sawmill in Knox County Monday morning.

Firefighters say the entire building off KY-233 was engulfed when crews arrived around 8 a.m. Six or seven employees escaped and were not injured. Witnesses say flames shot through the roof, sparking nearby transformers, causing small explosions.

The building was a complete loss, and officials say damage could run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The company specializes in lumber for hardwood floors and cabinets.

Other units on the property were undamaged and continue to operate.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
