Fire destroyed a home in Estill County early Tuesday morning.
Estill County fire chief Derek Muncie said somebody spotted flames in the house on Wall Street, just outside Irvine, around 2:30 a.m., and called 911. Firefighters arrived to find the home engulfed in flames.
"We spoke with some neighbors who told us no one was home at the time. Once we got all the apparatus here, pretty much the entire roof had collapsed, and we just went into defensive mode trying to get some fire out inside," Muncie said.
The fire chief said an arson investigator will sift through the burned out home later Tuesday. He said most of the furniture had been moved out of the home, and it appeared nobody was living there. The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
