Fire department crews in Estill County battled a 2-alarm house fire Thursday morning.
Firefighters say flames were shooting through the roof of a home along Sunrise Valley Road when they arrived on the scene. A man who lives in the house was asleep when a noise woke him up. He told firefighters he thought it was a knock at the door. It was actually the entire top floor exploding in flames. The man went upstairs and saw the fire and smoke detectors started going off. The man and his wife were able to escape.
"All personnel are OK. Everyone is pretty much OK and safe," Estill County Fire Department Lt. Jeff Oliver said.
The home is likely a total loss.
Firefighter say they don't know what caused the blaze.
