Campbellsville Police Identify Firefighters Hurt In Charity Challenge

Campbellsville police have identified the two firefighters who were critically injured in an accident during the completion of an ALS ice bucket challenge on the Campbellsville University campus Thursday.

Campbellsville Police Chief Tim Hazlette said in a news conference held a few hours after the accident that Tony Grider and Alex Quinn are at the University of Louisville Hospital, where Quinn appears to be improving, while Grider remains in critical condition.

Chief Hazlette said that Quinn and Grider were in the bucket of a ladder apparatus when the accident happened. However, the chief said there was no indication that it hit a power line. According to Hazlette, the bucket came about three to four feet from the power lines.

Two other firefighters were taken to Taylor County Regional Hospital where they were treated and released.

No students were injured.

The university released a statement Thursday afternoon asking for prayers for the two firefighters who were seriously injured.

"We express heartfelt sympathy and prayers for the families of the two firefighters who were injured," President Michael Carter said.

The university will be holding a prayer service at 7 p.m. Thursday on Stapp lawn for the victims.
