The coroner has released the name of the 5-year-old girl killed Wednesday afternoon in a Harrison County house fire that also injured her 4-year-old sister and her father.
The fire broke out around noon at a home on Oddville Pike in Cynthiana.
Five-year-old Jacqueline Chesnut was taken from the scene to a hospital in Harrison County, where she was pronounced dead. Her 4-year-old sister, Rachel and their father, Terry Chesnut were airlifted to UK Medical Center with serious burns.
"Enormous amount of smoke," Rhonda Strawzell, who works nearby, said as she described the scene to LEX 18. "Couldn't tell where anything was."
"When I showed up, there was a lot of smoke," said Orville Fowler, a neighbor. "It was billowing out. Really coming out."
"If it were me, I would want somebody to help me," said Shawnia Beagle, a member of Journey Christian Church, which has offered donations to the family. "I would be absolutely devastated if that happened to one of my children. My heart goes out to the mother."
While investigators have not released a cause for the fire, the family told LEX 18, it was caused by an exploding furnace inside the home.
Terry Chesnut is listed in stable condition.
Rachel Chesnut is listed in critical condition.
Donations for the Chesnut family can be made to Journey Christian Church in Cynthiana. Their number is (859) 235-8449.
