An officer heading to another call spotted an SUV burning along a rural road in Lexington early Thursday, and investigators say it matches the general description of a vehicle stolen from a Georgetown shop earlier in the morning.
Investigators say the SUV went through a fence and into the guard rail along Mt. Horeb Road, then burst into flames. The passing officer spotted the burning vehicle around 3:45 a.m. The driver was nowhere to be found.
Police say the SUV is similar to a vehicle that a burglar drove through the garage door of Bumper 2 Bumper Auto Care in Georgetown earlier in the morning, but they have not determined if it is the same SUV.
Police continue to investigate and search for the driver.
