A former Kentucky State University football player was arrested along with two other men in connection with a string of armed robberies at Detroit clubs, according to a story in the Detroit Free Press.

Quan Dorsey, 22, was arraigned on 11 counts of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, 12 counts of armed robbery and charges of using a firearm to commit a felony on Wednesday. Police say Dorsey and two other men robbed the Player's Club on 8 Mile back on March 19. Officers arrested the trio after they escaped from the strip club in an Oldsmobile Aurora, which police say they suspect was also connected to three other armed robberies.

Police called Dorsey the ringleader. A spokeswoman for Kentucky State University's sports information office told the newspaper he played football at the school, but was not currently on the team. His residence is still listed as Frankfort.

Dorsey also faces multiple charges in connection with robberies at three other Detroit clubs. Police say several masked gunmen held up Menjo's on Feb. 5, and Club Gold Coast and Tycoon's on March 3.

Police say the gunmen netted more than $50,000 in the robberies. When detectives questioned the suspects, they said they committed the crimes because of a "need for money."

Information from the Detroit Free Press was used in this report.
