Former Rockcastle County Teacher Killed In Crash

A retired Rockcastle County High School teacher died in a two-vehicle crash Monday night.

Police say Don R. Barnett, 55 was driving westbound along KY-150 and ran a red light at the intersection of KY-461 around 9 p.m. A Dodge Caravan driven by Kimberlee R. Benien, 23, of Somerset slammed into the side of Barnett's car.

EMS took Barnett to Rockcastle County Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Benien and a passenger in her car, Serena Howell, 23, of Somerset, were also transported to Rockcastle County Hospital. Benien was treated and released, and Howell was flown to UK Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition at last check.

Officials say Barnett was a long-time teacher at Rockcastle County High School.
