The former Woodford County coroner who made a plea deal with prosecutors in May on sex charges has been granted shock probation in the case.
Steve Ward asked for the probation so he can run his Versailles Funeral Home.
Ward was charged with six charges of third-degree sodomy when he was arrested back in 2010. Police say a male came forward claiming Ward sodomized him more than 10 years ago at the age of 14. Ward maintained his innocence until a plea agreement was made.
In May's plea agreement, Ward agreed to plead guilty to one count of misdemeanor sexual misconduct. The judge in the case immediately sentenced Ward to one year in jail with no parole possibility.
Ward was the Woodford County coroner for more than 20 years when he was defeated in the last election.
