So far there is no decision from the judge in the case of the former Woodford County coroner who made a plea deal with prosecutors in May on sex charges and recently asked for work release.
In court Tuesday, judge Bill Clouse said that Steve Ward would need to have a psychiatric evaluation at his own expense before a decision on the work release would be made. Ward is asking to leave the jail during the day to run his Versailles Funeral Home.
Ward was charged with six charges of third-degree sodomy when he was arrested back in 2010. Police say a male came forward claiming Ward sodomized him more than 10 years ago at the age of 14. Ward maintained his innocence until a plea agreement was made.
In May's plea agreement, Ward agreed to plead guilty to one count of misdemeanor sexual misconduct. The judge in the case immediately sentenced Ward to one year in jail with no parole possibility.
Ward was the Woodford County coroner for more than 20 years when he was defeated in the last election.
