A freak accident in Rhode Island has left the future of a UK cheerleader up in the air.

UK cheerleader Dylan Smith was back home in Rhode Island for the summer and was teaching a cheerleading class Saturday. shortly after his class was over at Superior Cheers in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, police say he was doing some tumbling of his own and on one particular move he landed and leaned back into a secured door. The door gave way and police say he began to fall four stories. They say he did a back flip in mid-air in the attempt to land on his feet, a move that may have saved his life. Smith suffered a fractured pelvis, and dislocated hip, but he is already back up on his feet using a walker.

His coach and family are hoping for a full recovery and to see Smith back in his element this fall.
