GOLDEN POND (AP) - Visitors to Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area will be allowed to take home a free Christmas tree during December.
The Kentucky New Era in Hopkinsville reports that Land Between the Lakes is offering permits valid from Dec. 1 to 24 that allow a family to cut down one cedar tree at no cost.
The trees can be cut from anywhere in Land Between the Lakes except areas with sight of U.S. 68 or The Trace, cemeteries, the nature watch demonstration areas, camgrounds, lawns or other mowed areas.
Permits, maps and cutting guidelines can be picked up between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. CST Monday through Friday at the LBL administrative office.
