Garrard County High School athletics director Kalem Grasham didn't get much of a break after hiring a new boys' head basketball coach a couple of weeks ago. Now he's on a quest to find a new head baseball coach.

Doug Simpson handed in his resignation last Monday.

Gresham told the Advocate-Messenger that Simpon, who works full-time as a Danville firefighter, wanted to free up more time for his own family.

A Garrard County High School alum, Simpson compiled a 26-63 record in three seasons as head coach.

Gresham has kept busy interviewing coaching candidates over the past year. The new baseball coach will mark the eighth coaching hire at Garrard County. This fall, the Golden Lion cross country team, volleyball team, boys' and girls' golf team and the boys' soccer team will all take the field under new leadership. The track and field team will also have a new coach next spring.
