Officials with Columbia Gas said gas service was recently turned back on at a vacant Lexington home on Campbell Street that exploded Monday morning.

Officials say the gas was shut off back in June. It was restored on Dec. 12, but none of the appliances inside the house were turned back on. At the time, crews inspected pipes and found no leaks. Last Friday, crews did a check and found no gas usage at the home, according to Columbia Gas. After the explosion, officials say crews discovered a large amount of gas was used since that Friday check, as much as an average home would use in a month during the summer.

The explosion rocked the neighborhood near Transylvania University around 1 a.m.

Nobody was hurt.
