Georgetown College men's basketball avenged one of its few losses with an 86-81 win Thursday over rival St. Catharine.
The No. 13 Tigers (18-5, 9-3) needed to weather a fierce fight in the second half as the Patriots (13-8, 7-5) erased an eight-point halftime deficit. SCC won the second 20, but a huge late three by Noah Cottrill all but sealed the deal for GC. Monty Wilson dropped a game-high 23, but it was his drive and kick to Cottrill in the left corner that was icing on the game. The sophomore finished with 13. Trenity Burdine came off the bench for 14. Deondre McWhorter and Dominique Hagans each finished with 10. In close games it comes down to free throws as well and the Tigers were 34-39 in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
Omar Skinner and William Tolefree led SCC with 16, while Romeo Lewis and Raymon Austin had 10 each.
Georgetown returns to action 4 pm Saturday against Campbellsville University.
