A Grant County High School band director was arrested Thursday and charged with sexual abuse.
Kenneth "David" Owens, 34, was charged with two counts of sexual abuse. Officials did not release the details of the charges.
Owens has been the Director of Bands at Grant County High School since 2009, according to the Grant County Band's website.
In a statement, the Grant County Schools superintendent said, "On Wednesday, September 11th, the administration of the Grant County School District became aware of rumors that a high school faculty member, David Owens, may have been involved in an inappropriate relationship with a former student. The administration acted immediately to investigate and within 24 hours of first hearing these rumors, Mr. Owens had resigned in lieu of termination. In addition, a full report was filed with the Fort Thomas Police and the Campbell County Commonwealth's Attorney. As a result of our report, Mr. Owens has been arrested.
"I am truly appreciative of the tremendous support that the community has shown for the school district as these events have taken place. Please know that the discretion we have shown in the release of information is a direct result of the ongoing investigation and an effort to protect the rights and privacy of our students. The matter is now in the hands of the Grant County Sheriff and the Grant County Commonwealth Attorney with whom we are fully cooperating. No further public comment will be made by the school district pending the resolution of the criminal proceedings.
"I assure you that the administration of the Grant County School District acted swiftly and decisively to ensure the safety and well-being of our students. That is, and will always be our primary concern."
No court date has been set for Owens.
