Police in Cynthiana thought they were involved in a standoff with a knife wielding man early Thursday morning.

Apparently it was all a hoax.

Officials say a man called 911 claiming he had stabbed his girlfriend in the stomach around 3:30 a.m. He told dispatchers he was inside the Curves building along South Poplar Street. Officers arrived on the scene and closed down several roads, including US-27. When police made entry into the building, it was empty with no evidence of any stabbing.

Now police are trying to find the person who made that call.

All roads are back open in the area.
