A horrific head-on crash between a dump truck and a van sent a woman to UK Hospital. It happened around 4:00 pm on U.S. 62 near Star Hill Way in Anderson County.
"We just saw a big cloud of smoke and came up here, and the truck was inside of the van," says witness, Crystal Mastin.
Kentucky State Police say to avoid rear-ending a car that was turning left in front of him, the driver of the empty dump truck that hauls asphalt swerved into oncoming traffic, hitting the van.
"The truck was right here on her. It smashed everything towards her. She was moving her arms, but everything else she couldn't move," says Amber Baker, a witness who was in one of the cars in front of the dump truck.
First responders cut the front off the dump truck, and the roof off the van to get her out. Police say she was conscious and speaking to paramedics. She was airlifted to UK Hospital.
Witnesses say speeding is a problem on US 62.
"These big trucks drive really fast," says witness David Mastin.
The driver of the dump truck was taken to the hospital just to be checked out.
