The identities of two men shot and killed in a shootout during a Clark County home invasion early Monday morning have been released.
Winchester police say two intruders broke into a duplex along Redwing Road around 1:15 a.m. One of the suspects shot the man who lived in the home, Phillip Howard. Howard shot back, hitting and killing one of the suspects, Demontez Cowherd. Police say they don't know if the second intruder was hit.
EMS transported Howard to Clark Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Cowherd was also taken to Clark Regional and then transferred to UK Hospita, where he was pronounced dead.
Police say Howard lived alone in the duplex.
A third shooting victim showed up at St. Joseph Hospital East in Lexington shortly after the Winchester shootings. Lexington police say they are investigating whether that shooting victim may be connected to the Winchester shooting.
