Injuries Reported After Small Plane Crash In LaRue County

Emergency crews in LaRue County were on the scene Monday afternoon after a small plane crashed in front of a school.

According to Sam Sanders, superintendent of LaRue County schools, the plane landed 3:30 p.m. in front of Abraham Lincoln Elementary School on Lincoln Farm Road in Hodgenville. There were three people on the plane.

Emergency officials said the plane was taking off from a private grass strip when it crashed for unknown reasons. The pilot was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital, and a small child went to Kosair Children's Hospital. There is no word yet on the third person or an the extent of injuries suffered by any of the victims. All were flown from the scene by medical helicopters.

Federal investigators arrived at the scene just before 6 p.m.

School was in session Monday in LaRue County, but classes had been dismissed for the day when the incident occurred.
