A man broke into a woman's home and set it on fire Sunday night in Georgetown.
Police say three children and their mother were in the home along Emerson Trail around 11:15 when a masked man broke in and confronted the woman. He bound her hands with duct tape, but she was able to escape and ran upstairs. The intruder then set a fire inside the house. The woman jumped out a second story window to escape and suffered a minor injury in the process. The children also made out OK.
"Obviously, being distraught at the condition of her home and the welfare of her children, as far as we know, she suffered injury to her ankle when she was getting out of her house, all things considered, it's a minor injury," Georgetown Police Department Lt.Phillip Haley said.
Police say the children and the mother were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
"Our victim says she does not know who it was. He had a mask on, could not make out race, she didn't advise that anything was said. The next thing she knew, she was able to get upstairs, then the house was on fire," Haley said.
Police continue to investigate, trying to figure out exactly what happened.
