Investigators say that a fire that destroyed a Madison County home Friday afternoon was the result of arson.

The fire broke out just after noon at a home on Lancaster Drive in Richmond. A family of four lived in the home, but no one was home at the time of the fire.

Officials say that it is believed that the house was the target of a burglary before the fire was started.
