Is Steve Brown leaving UK?
Although Joker Phillips has said a number of times that he expects Brown to be back, there are those who believe that the only way the former defensive coordinator for UK, who keeps the title but has lost his power to Rick Minter is going to leave if he finds a good job.
A few months ago when I asked Brown about his future at UK he said it was,"in God's hands." He said he wasn't worried about the future and that things would work out.
Brown, who was brought to Lexington by his former coach, Rich Brooks has interviewed for the defensive coordinator opening at UCLA. The L.A. Times broke this story using an unnamed source.
UCLA Head Coach Rick Neuheisel fired Chuck Bullough, his defensive coordinator on December 18th.
UK was 45th in total defense and only 72nd in scoring defense last season. But, when you look deeper into UK's numbers, they are towards the bottom in many categories in the SEC, that includes once again being very poor at stopping the run.
Rick Minter, the new defensive coordinator for UK has talked about the Cats not being tough enough.
Brown was Kentucky's defensive coordinator the last four seasons. He has been an assistant at Kentucky since 2003, spending four seasons as the Wildcats' defensive backs coach.
Brown played for Rich Brooks at Oregon and then in the NFL from before becoming an assistant coach for Brooks with the St. Louis Rams in 1995.
