I'm thrilled to be in Lexington and working as a reporter for LEX 18! I grew up in Louisville, so it's great to be so close to family and friends there. But don't be fooled, I bleed blue ... have since I was a little boy.
I got my start when I was 16 when I auditioned for anchor/reporter tryouts for a start-up station at Ballard High School in Louisville. I got the job! From there I went on to Murray State University in western Kentucky, where I worked as a reporter, anchor and producer for MSU TV-11 and a local UPN affiliate.
After graduating, I worked for three years as an assignment editor and producer for WHAS-TV in Louisville, where I helped in the investigation uncovering former Governor Paul Patton's affair while in office. I also covered the Derby, something I look forward to doing at LEX 18!
I'm no stranger to much of the viewing area. I worked as a reporter and anchor for WYMT Mountain News, covering much of southern and eastern Kentucky for more than four years. That's where I covered the heartbreaking loss of a Bell County sheriff's deputy and his police dog, from moments after the crash all the way to the trial of the accused killer. At WYMT I also contributed reports to WKYT and WDKY in Lexington, as well as WVLT in Knoxville.
I'm so excited to tell the stories of the people in central and southern Kentucky, and I look forward to seeing you around! Send me your story ideas at jallen@lex18.com. You can also find me on twitter @LEXJeffAllen, and I’m Jeff Allen on Facebook!
