A Jessamine County man convicted of severely injuring his ex-girlfriend's toddler son back in 2006 was sentenced to 15 years in prison in the case Wednesday.
Jonathon Reed pleaded guilty to assault and wanton endangerment in the case of Coby Payne. Payne, now five years old, still suffers developmental problems from the blunt force trauma his mother said he received at the hands of Reed while he babysat the child back in 2006. The boy was treated at UK Children's Hospital for two weeks before being transferred to Cardinal Hill Hospital for rehab.
The boy's mother, Sherry Payne, said in court before the sentencing that Reed has shown no remorse for the injuries he caused her son and has never said why he did it.
Reed's sentencing had been delayed. He is eligible for parole in February because he has been in jail for three years since the incident.
