For a minute, try and forget that John Wall is a superstar.
Think of all the parents that could take this comment and talk to their children, who might listen more because it's John Wall.
"You gotta stay humble," says the former UK superstar.
"It's kind of amazing and crazy that so many things can change in a year or two if you work hard and keep believing in yourself and people believe in you. That's what I felt."
Wall remembers where he came from.
"The AAU team that I played with believed that I could be a special person. My family stuck with me when I had the tough times and the hard times. And now that I'm at where I'm at they are still here with me."
Wall is smart in how he is keeping those who were there before he was John Wall the great player close to him, as he's about to become a millionaire."
"A lot of people said my Mom wasn't there for me, she didn't love me."
"They said my coaches, Brian (Clifton) was a bad guy for me. But you know it's the trust that my Mom got me believing in people, and I felt they believed in me for my whole high school career before I had a name and took me to certain places. So, to keep the same circle means a lot. That means I can trust them."
He might not be 21, but Wall gets it better than many NBA veterans who have already made millions. He wants to, and understands he is supposed to use his power to help others in the community when he joins the NBA.
"I'm comfortable with any role. The key with me is winning games, but you also want to help the community out, and you want do things like that for the team and whats going to make the team look better in any kind of way."
"My goal is to go in there, win games and change the organization around."
Change the organization around? If it's Washington, you wonder if they realize how lucky they are going to be with Wall both on and off the court.
