The Johnson County Sheriff says search crews have found two bodies that may be Larry and Sandy Blanton, who have been missing since September 2012.
Investigators say the couple's bodies were found about four feet underground, in the same hole, just after midnight Saturday morning, behind a barn on their property off Pigeon Creek in the Oil Springs community.
Sheriff Dwayne Price says a tip led them to investigate the property, but he won't elaborate beyond that. He says crews started searching and digging at around 8pm on Friday.
The Johnson County coroner confirms the bodies are two adults and one of them is female. But because they are badly decomposed, he says, he cannot confirm their identities. The bodies will be sent to Frankfort later Saturday, for an autopsy.
Price tells LEX 18, he's confident the bodies are Larry and Sandy Blanton.
Price says this has gone from a missing person's case to a homicide investigation.
The couple's son, Willie Blanton, was labeled a "person of interest" in the case. He is in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, accused of filling his parents' prescriptions and forging their checks.
The sheriff says Willie Blanton is still a "person of interest."
"I've been told they think I did something with them," Willie Blanton told LEX 18 last year, while in tears.
Earlier this month, Sandy Blanton's family began circulating a flyer, offering a $10,000 reward to anyone who provides information that leads to the couple and the arrest of whoever is responsible for their disappearance.
