Duke plays one way, Michigan State another way, Kentucky is different than the first two.
They all are big time programs. There are plenty of ways to skin the cat. Many ways work. The dribble-drive is getting a ton of publicity in Kentucky because of Cal.
"You still have to make shots," says Jon Hood.
The freshman forward is smart. Basketball is basketball.
"Make shots and play defense. That's the way it's always been. Everybody thinks that we should be able to roll over people because of the name on our chest. We are everyone Super Bowl."
Cal isn't getting the players to do what he wants. That has everything to do with harder practices and two workouts a day. It sounds simple and it should be. He's trying to get players to run wide on the wings on a fast break so it creates more space.
"It's just easier. It's easier and lazier and that's something that we have to pick up and get better at. And, I think we will."
As far as Hood blending in with the big boys of major college hoops, this is pretty normal for most freshman.
"Most of us came from background where we were the main guys. And now we are part of a team that we are adjusting to. "
The adjusting continues tonight against Clarion. The final score means nothing. The amount of effort and running to the right spots means a lot more.
We'll be blogging during the game.
