Even after two dry days, officials across the state continue to deal with the effects of last weekend's torrential rains.

The Kentucky River crested around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at approximately 42.6 feet. At 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, the river was at 42.22 feet, more than 11 feet above flood stage. NOAA forecasters predict the Kentucky River will finally drop back below flood stage on Saturday.

As the water recedes, floating debris become a problem. Police shut down the bridge leading to the capitol building Tuesday night, as onlookers watched a boat dock float downstream. Officials say the dock came loose in Woodford County and made its way downstream, picking up trees and other debris as it floated toward Frankfort. Police say the floating drifted by without damaging any of the town's three bridges.

In a scene played out across the Bluegrass Sate, flood victims in Rowan County continue to sift through their belongings, trying to salvage what they can. High water in the town of Farmer, near Cave Run Lake, has receded, but resident say it will take months to fix the destruction left behind. Several homes and businesses suffered heavy damage.

Up to 10 inches of rain fell across parts of Kentucky last weekend, causing some of the worst flooding in years.
