Kentucky has won 80% of their home openers. That wonderful percentage did not look good in the first quarter.
The biggest cheer of the first quarter was for Anthony Davis who was introduced.
UK went for it on 4th down with the Wildcat offense which is run by Morgan Newton. He goes backwards after getting no help from his line, and Kent State takes over.
Dri Archer with the first big play. The 175 pound junior from Laurel, Florida goes 47 yards and with 1:54 to go in the first quarter Kent State grabs a 7-0 lead. It's a 5 play 72 yard drive that takes 2:04.
UK comes right back. Aaron Boyd earns the start and scores his first TD. It's a 14 yard pass from Max Smith which completes a 10 play 75 yard drive that takes 2:50. There is 14:04 left in the half.
Freddy Cortez tries a 50 yard field goal that hits the bar and UK strikes. Raymond Sanders with a pretty 67 yard TD run that is completed with a stiff arm to Darius Polk. The one play drive takes 12 seconds and UK goes up 14-7 with 8 minutes to go in the half.
After Freddy Cortez missed a 31 yard field goal, UK put together a pretty drive to end the half. First Aaron Boyd with a great 21 yard catch. Jonathan George then takes a short pass 26 yards and Craig McIntosh hits a 47 yard field goal on the last play of the half. It's a 7 play 51 yard drive that takes 47 seconds. UK leads 17-7 at the half.
Quarterback Max Smith is flat out doing it. 18 of 25 for 190 yards and 1 TD with no picks. That's hitting 72%.
