For those people who have no permanent home, the extremely cold weather is a frightening time.
"It isn't a matter of convenience to have a place to stay, it's a necessity," says Ginny Ramsey with the Catholic Action Center.
Many of Lexington's homeless spend most of their nights in cars or camped out somewhere. But when the temperatures dip well below freezing. "On these nights the vehicles are not enough protection," says Ramey.
Volunteers at the Catholic Action Center open their doors and their hearts for all. "These are the folks that the other places cannot take," says Ramsey. But with more and more people seeking a warm place, it's not easy. "This time of year a greater challenge, last night at the Community Inn it looked like a few folks had a little bit of frostbite on their feet."
The center is asking for donations of of socks, gloves and hats, anything that can keep you warm. To help deal with all the demand, the Catholic Action Center is training people who want to become volunteers. The next training session is Sunday at the center's 'Community Inn' off Winchester Road from 2:00 - 4:00.
