KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A Kentucky woman has been sentenced to over 40 years in prison for her facilitation role in the 2007 torture-slaying of a Knoxville woman.
Vanessa Coleman of Lebanon, Ky., was convicted in November for helping three men in the attack that killed 21-year-old Channon Christian, who investigators said was kidnapped, raped, tortured and left to die.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reported the sentence issued on Friday was less than her original sentence of 53 years. She was given a second trial after the trial judge acknowledged drug use during original proceedings.
In her first trial, she was acquitted of any crimes against Christian's boyfriend, Christopher Newsom, who was raped and shot and his body set on fire.
