A Laurel county woman who entered a guilty plea to killing her cousin in a DUI car wreck last year was sentenced in the case Monday.
Miranda Knowles plead guilty to second-degree manslaughter, wanton endangerment and driving drunk. Police say she caused a three-car accident in April 2009 that killed her passenger and cousin, 19-year-old Courtney Carter.
On Monday, received a 15-year sentence. She was sentenced to 10 years for second-degree manslaughter and five years for the wanton endangerment charge, with the sentences to be served one after the other. Knowles was also sentenced 48 hours for a misdemeanor DUI count to run concurrent with the manslaughter sentence.
Knowles will be given credit for 336 days already served.
