FRANKFORT (AP) - Lawmakers have given final approval to a legislative redistricting plan that now goes to Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear for consideration.

House Republican Floor Leader Jeff Hoover called Thursday for Beshear to veto the legislation that passed the House 58-49, largely along party lines. The Senate had approved the plan on Wednesday.

Hoover said if Beshear truly wants to rid Frankfort of partisan politics he'll veto the redistricting legislation.

Beshear spokeswoman Kerri Richardson had no immediate comment on whether Beshear will sign the legislation into law.

Always hotly debated, legislative redistricting occurs every 10 years to account for population changes reported in the U.S. Census.

The proposal shifts one Democratic senator's district some 200 miles from Henderson to Lexington. It also sets up Republican vs. Republican races in three House districts.
