A fire in a Lexington apartment building displaced several families Tuesday night.
Authorities said the fire burned on unit of a house split into three apartments.
Battalion Chief Andrew Areaux said the call came in as a kitchen fire. When crews arrived there was visible smoke and flames shooting from the back of the house. Luckily, everyone was able to escape, including Crystal Grimes who tried to grab some personal belongings.
"My Purse, cause it's got my ID in it and my dog and two cats, hopefully my cats are okay. Hopefully, there ain't no more damage than smoke damage, but my friends apartment is probably pretty much gone," explained Grimes.
Areaux, said two of the units in the apartment were not burned, but have smoke and water damage. The Red Cross is assisting all three of the misplaced families.
At this time the cause of the fire is under investigation.
