Lexington firefighters quickly put out a large brush fire late Sunday night.

The fire was spotted burning in a large brush pile off St. Martins Avenue, in the area of New Circle Road and Georgetown Road, around 10:30 p.m. Firefighters managed to keep the flames from spreading to nearby homes and apartments.

Firefighters say they don't know what sparked the fire, but they found items apparently belonging to several homeless people in the brush pile.
