A Lexington Kroger was evacuated due to a freon leak early Monday morning.
Workers at the Kroger on Leestown Road noticed the leak around 3:15 a.m. Firefighters evacuated the building after the leak was located in the dairy area.
"With freon, the main hazard with freon is that it displaces the oxygen, so we want to make sure everyone is out of the area," Lexington Fire Department Battalion Chief Andy Areaux said.
Workers were allowed back inside around 4:45 a.m. after crews ventilated the building.
Firefighters say nobody was ever in direct danger.
