Lexington Man Fights Off Would-Be Robbers

A Lexington man gets a sour start to his holiday weekend when two men tried to rob him near the campus of Transylvania late Wednesday night, but he was able to fight them off.

The incident happened at about 11 p.m. behind the man's apartment building on Third Avenue and Broadway right across from Transy's campus. The victim, Dustin Roberts, says he was unloading his car behind his apartment when two men came at him, and one pulled a gun in his face. He says the gunman forced him down to the ground while the other got in his car, but Roberts got back to his feet and wrestled with the man.

The two suspects got in Roberts' car and tried to drive away, but they clipped a parked car nearby and ran away on foot. "Just the way they were acting, I thought this is it. This is it," said Roberts. "I'm going to die the night before Thanksgiving. Man, it's so scary."

Roberts got a good look at both suspects, describing them as two young black men around 16 to 18 years old. One was about 5'10" with short hair, the other about 5'7" with dreads or curls. Police think the pair got to the scene on bicycles, and that they used a BB gun in the robbery.

If you have any tips, give Lexington police a call.
