Lexington Police Investigate Family Dollar Robbery

Lexington Police are investigating after an armed robbery at a Family Dollar store Thursday morning.

The robbery happened at about 10 a.m. at the Family Dollar in the Waller Center. LEX 18 talked with the clerk who was inside the store at the time, and she said the robber came in asking for light bulbs and a phone charger. However, when he came up to the counter to pay, he handed her note that read, "give me all your money in ten seconds".

The clerk says the robber had a knife in his hand and threatened her. She gave him cash and he took off running.

Across the parking lot from Family Dollar is Backyard Burgers, which was burglarized last year. The manager there says she knows how scary a robbery can be for an employee. "I do feel safe, but every three to four months you are hearing about something in the area," said Angela Sloan.

The Family Dollar clerk says she'll be okay after what happened. She says the robber couldn't have gotten more than $30 since there weren't many customers Thursday morning. l

The clerk says the robber was a white man, about 5-foot-10 with brown hair. She says he was also wearing glasses, sweatpants, and a flannel shirt.
