Lexington Police Investigating Two Armed Robberies Near Each Other

Lexington police are investigating two armed robberies that occuried within blocks of each other late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, in North Lexington.

The first happened at Donato's on New Circle around 11:30 Saturday night. Surveillance video shows a large man in a big black sweatshirt enter the restaurant from the back door, walk up to the employees at the front register, then walk to the back room. A worker hands the robber cash, and the suspect leaves the same way he or she came in. He appears to be holding a black handgun. The manager on duty tells LEX 18 News he believes the man got away with about 160 dollars in cash. The robber is described as a heavy set man with a black handgun.

The second robbery happened at the Days Inn on North Broadway just before five Sunday morning. Police describe the robber as a man wearing a black mask and black clothing, carrying a silver handgun.

The robber ran off after taking the motel's money, which we're told was 237 dollars in cash.

Lexington Police say they haven't yet compared surveillance two video from the restaurant and motel, but judging from suspect descriptions, these two robberies may not be connected.
