Lexington Police Say They Believe They Are Looking For Two Suspects In String Of Carjackings

Lexington Police said Wednesday that they believe that they are looking for two suspects in a string of recent carjackings across the city.

Police say there are at least six cases spread out across the city, and it appears women are being targeted. One of the victims, a recent college graduate, said it happened to her last Thursday night across from UK Hospital at a Speedway station. Alison Harpring has her car back now, but her ordeal matches the stories from the other recent carjacking victims. She says the man told her her tire was flat and when she got out to look he jumped in her car and drove off. Police later found it abandoned.

Lexington Police say just one man is behind these carjackings around town, all with the similar motive - he seems trusting and helpful.

On Tuesday, LEX 18 spoke to a woman was had the same thing happen to her in the Woodhill area. Her car was found abandoned Wednesday morning in the north side of town off Georgetown Street.

Meanwhile, two men are facing charges in connection with the vehicle taken from the Woodhill area. Police say Jermaine Smith and Brandon Rigley are charged with receiving stolen property.
