Officials say Lexington's Haley Pike landfill will close Friday, Dec. 30.
The city's composting and convenience center will remain open at the facility. Residents who live outside of the urban services area can continue to drop off landfill-bound waste and recyclables at the facility.
The CDD operation at the facility is closing because it has reached its capacity. The landfill opened in the 1970s as the disposal site for all city waste. It was converted to a CDD operation in 1995. Haley Pike has been accepting construction and demolition debris (CDD) materials since 1995,
Those needing to dispose of CDD items can take their materials to other operations including:
-Thoroughbred Landfill, 4179 Hedger Lane, Lexington;
-Bluegrass Waste Alliance Transfer Station, 1505 Old Frankfort Pike, Lexington;
-Central Kentucky Landfill, 493 Double Culvert Road, Georgetown;
-Tri K Landfill, KY Highway 3249, Stanford;
-Benson Valley Area Landfill, KY Highway 151, Frankfort.
If you need to discard of reusable building items such as mantels, flooring, doors and fixtures can make arrangements with the deconstruction unit at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 451 Southland Drive in Lexington. You can reach them at (859) 252-2224, ext. 128 or via email at billw@lexhabitat.org.
Businesses needing to dispose of large quantities of cardboard should go to the Lexington Recycling Center at 350 Thompson Road, or to Central Kentucky Fibers Resources at 847 Angliana Ave., both in Lexington.
Large amounts of metal can be recycled at a metal scrapper such as Wise Recycling or Baker Iron and Metal. Wise Recycling is located at 203 Lisle Industrial Avenue. Baker Iron and Metal is located at 740 Rockcastle Avenue and at 1554 Old Frankfort Pike.
